THE HYDRA RECLAIMS THE AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY…
The Hydra bring a truly pioneering collection of musicians to the Press Halls this August, with three curated shows across the bank holiday weekend with headliners Nils Frahm, Jeff Mills, Larry Heard and many more.
After a short hiatus from this key weekend in the annual music calendar, The Hydra returns to reclaim the August Bank Holiday weekend. Welcoming a collection of artists who represent the foundations of the musical institutions we recognise today, the weekend’s music program is also supported by a wealth of emerging talent, all presented with exceptional production for optimal experience. Ever-evolving, The Hydra continue to provide a platform to showcase the most exciting electronic music in London.
Marking The Hydra’s first event to take place in our live room, our opening show of the weekend is led by the immensely talented composer Nils Frahm. The technically brilliant artist delivers performances which blur the lines between genres in truly ingenious and original ways with keys as an actor throughout.
In support, The Hydra have commissioned a one-off 25th anniversary performance of Global Communication’s ’76:14’ by Tom Middleton.
For the Saturday, The Hydra have enlisted true giants of techno and electro to see us through until 2am. The ever-impressive Jeff Mills’ debut at Printworks last winter provided a Techno masterclass, as his performances have quite rightly become unmissable events in every corner of the world, and will be joined by Juan Atkins in a rare Model 500 performance. Helena Hauff also hits the Press Halls for her long-awaited return, with Ben Klock appearing too, having provided one of the highlights of last season. Another venue (and UK) debut sees Detroit’s Terrence Dixon perform live whilst LA’s Mor Elian gets us started.
The Dark Room welcomes Workshop affiliates Willow and Move D, who continue to represent so much that we love about electronic music. We’re also pleased to have Hydra debutant Damiano Von Erckert bring his Hip Hop-channelling house sensibility to the second, more intimate space with NTS’ DEBONAIR getting us started.
Sundays may well be the choice day of any bank holiday. Offering the opportunity to get stuck in afresh, to pick up where you previously left off or perhaps best of all, to unexpectedly find yourself in the dance, completely unplanned and ready for anything. – The Hydra
We welcome house music leviathan Larry Heard to Printworks for the first time, for what will be his only London show of 2019 alongside the effervescent Fatima & Paul Cut. Accompanying Mr Fingers on our Sunday session are a triumvirate of second generation Detroit superstars: Carl Craig, Moodymann and Theo Parrish. From East coast to West, this party also features a live excursion from Stones Throw‘s low-slung songsmith DāM-FunK.
In the Dark Room on Sunday, Belgian’s intrepid wax-hunter Lefto teams up with Brownswood alumnus Joe Armon-Jones for a trip into the unknown, with support from Logic1000, Ash Lauryn and Sofie.
