This year Printworks has proudly partnered with Smirnoff’s #EqualisingMusic campaign to actively tackle the gender gap in electronic music. Launched in 2017, #EqualisingMusic is a three-year global initiative to double the number of female-identifying headliners within music venues and festivals; with an ultimate ambition to inspire the next generation of artists.

Not enough
Just 5% of recognised producers and 17% of 2016’s international music festival headliners identify as female. This is not enough. As the first music venue to join the #EqualisingMusic campaign, Printworks is committed to playing its part in significantly raising these figures 2020.

The equalising music programme
In addition to our own initiatives to expand the diversity of lineups offered at Printworks in 2018, we have collaborated with Smirnoff to select a panel of high-calibre artists at the forefront of the scene to spearhead this year’s campaign.

Following a wealth of applications, earlier this year each member of the #EqualisingMusic panel (which consists of The Black Madonna, Nastia, Peggy Gou, Honey Dijon and Artwork) carefully selected ten aspiring female artists to work with as artistic mentors, developing the applicants’ personal and practical development.

Several of these workshops have already taken place. The workshops gave the mentees the opportunity to discuss their goals, challenges and development with their mentor over a three hour period. In addition to this, following the workshops each mentee has been offered the opportunity to join their mentor on a world-famous festival or venue stage.

This Saturday, the #EqualisingMusic ambassadors and their mentees will come together to perform at Printworks. The Press Halls are star-studded with talent, with several returning faces such as HAAi and Peggy Gou, as well as debuts from Artwork, The Black Madonna and Honey Dijon. The newly renamed Dark Room plays host to the winners of the mix competition we hosted at the beginning of the year; giving a vital stage to the sounds of tomorrow.

This Saturday Smirnoff Equalising Music comes to Printworks London.
This show is about to sell out.
